Francis Jerome Lewandowski - Class Of 1970 VIEW PROFILE

Frances Jerome Lewandowski

Oct. 22, 1951 - Sept. 9, 2017

SOUTH BEND - Jerry worked for Bendix Corporation, Notre Dame security services, and the South Bend Medical Foundation as a driver. For many years he went to doctor offices, med clinics, and hospitals delivering supplies and picking up medical specimens. He was well-liked at all of his jobs and knew many people on a first name basis. Jerry would not just pick up specimens and take off right away. He would always spend a few minutes talking with people and getting to know them. He was unique in this way. Jerry was a big fan of Notre Dame sports in general and spent many hours a week watching men's and women's games late into the evening. He would then check scores of the Notre Dames games he missed in the paper. When possible, he would go to Chicago to try some great Italian beef sandwiches or pizza or walk at Navy Pier. He liked to talk about going fishing also. He even had a couple of spots picked out for us to try in South Bend.

I talked with Jerry late at night every week. I knew that he was a sharp minded person who could keep track of dates, times, and details fairly easily. Jerry was a no nonsense person who would never lie. He didn't tell people what they wanted to hear, he told them the facts of what actually happened or what should happen. He spoke about his grandkids regularly and he was happy to get to see them. He is survived by 2 brothers, Tom and Eugene; 2 sons, Richard and Jeremy, 1 daughter, Bonnie, and seven grandkids, Haley, Nick, Deena, Douglas, Brayden, Brylee, and Skylar.

Instead of a funeral, Jerry chose cremation as an avenue to pass on to the next life. However, everyone can be comforted in that he not only accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour a while back, but I was told that he was given his last rites before he passed due to his Catholic upbringing. Because of this, I am confident that I will see Jerry again! The Bible tells us that there is a lot of work for us to do in heaven when we get there, but I am sure we will have a few hours to go fishing!

Jerry made my life better, I hope he made yours better as well.
From his long time friend, Norm Allen
