SOUTH BEND - Roosevelt Topps Jr. 57, a beloved son, father and brother departed this life on Saturday, January 2, 2010. In South Bend, IN, on November 21, 1952, Roosevelt was the first born son to the union of Roosevelt Topps Sr. and Odesta Hamilton Topps. Roosevelt was a lifelong member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church.

He was a graduate of LaSalle High School. While in high school, he was a member of the track team and excelled in the 200 mm hurdles. Following graduation, he attended Shaw University, as a criminal law major. During his adult years, Roosevelt worked as an production scheduler for the Bendix Corp., until Bendix Corp. transferred him to Galitan, TN. In 2003 he returned to South Bend, IN.

He leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Roosevelt (Helen) Topps Sr. and Odesta Topps (Frank) Middlebrook; two sons, Jarvis Topps of South Bend and Gerald Norris of Atlanta; five grandchildren; two sisters, Debbie Topps of Hawthorne, CA, and Barbara Easton of South Bend; two brothers, Larry (Gloria) of South Bend and Glenn Topps of Atlanta; one uncle, J.W. Topps of South Bend; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services for Mr. Roosevelt Topps Jr. will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010, in the Greater St. John M.B. Church. 101 N. Adams, South Bend, IN. Visitation: 11:00 a.m. and funeral services at noon. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, South Bend, IN. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
