Elmer E. “Bud” Babbs, 64, passed away from complications of congestive heart failure and pulmonary hypertension of the lungs at his home during the very early hours of Sunday, July 28, 2019, surrounded by his loved ones. Elmer was born on September 14, 1954 to Roy Eugene and Beverly Lou (Cauffman) Babbs.

A life-long resident of South Bend, Elmer was employed as a supervisor at the downtown United States Postal Service office, retiring after many years of faithful service. On September 28, 1996, Elmer was united in marriage to Judith (Kloski) Babbs. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1973 – 1977 aboard the USS McDonough-DD-39. Elmer was also a member of American Legion Post #284 and Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling, visiting different restaurants and was a “techie” and huge Cubs fan. Elmer also possessed the spiritual gift of “woo”. Elmer loved the Lord and no one was a stranger or not loved by him. He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, godfather, cousin and friend. Elmer will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife of 22 years, Judith Babbs of South Bend, Elmer is also survived by his children: Rodney A. (Jennifer) Semak of Mishawaka, Joshua A. (Ashley) Semak of Granger and Ezra J. Babbs of South Bend; seven grandchildren: Jayden Semak, Tessa Semak, Chase Semak, Cameron Reed, Valerie Reed, Addilyn Semak and Levi Semak; sister Barbara Babbs of South Bend; brothers Ronald (Diane) Babbs of Grovertown, IN and Joseph Beal of Mishawaka; godson Benjamin Richards of Hampton, VA; as well as a host of extended family members and friends. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents.

Services for Mr. Elmer Babbs will be held on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 3001 Cleveland Rd, South Bend, IN 46628. Pastor Reed Anderstrom to officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Palmer Funeral Home – West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend, IN 46628. Burial to follow services on Friday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Online expressions of sympathy may be left at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be left in Elmer’s honor to Cleveland Clinic/Philanthropy Institute, PO Box 931517, Cleveland, OH 44193-1655 or to Calvary Baptist Church.
