Bobbie Jean Collins

Oct. 6, 1955 - Jun. 15, 2003

Ms. Bobbie Jean Collins, 47, of 1317 West Linden Avenue, South Bend, Ind., was called home on Sunday, June 15, in Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.

Bobbie Jean Collins was born on Oct. 6, 1955, in South Bend, to the union of Johnny Sr. and Geraldine E. CollinsBobbie is now on her journey to be with her loving mother, Geraldine E. Collins, who preceded her in death in 1982. She was also preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, Lonnie and Lillian Luten, and Alex and Ollie Collins.

Bobbie was an outgoing, free spirit who was well-known in the South Bend community. At an early age, she was baptized at Grace A.M.E. Zion Church where over the years she served the church in whatever capacity she was called upon to do. Through her many church and community activities and her various employment opportunities, Bobbie crossed paths with many people. Of the many people she met, none remained strangers; some she left with a smile, but many were left with lasting memories of her quick wit and good humor, her generous spirit, and of special times shared. In her short time here, Bobbie touched many lives and will be forever missed. Prior to her illness, Bobbie was employed as a chef.

Bobbie Jean Collins leaves to mourn her loss and cherish her memory her caring father, Johnny Collins Sr. of South Bend; two sisters, Lillian A. Bracey and Ollie R. (Grady) Perkins of South Bend; and three brothers, Ltc. (ret.) George R. Collins of Pineville, La., Johnny Jr. (Denise) Collins and Gregory L. (Toye) Collins of South Bend. She is also survived by one aunt, Annell Waters of South Bend, and two uncles, Joseph (Della) Luten of South Bend and Walter (Cleo) Collins of Monroe, La.; 13 nieces and nephews, Tiffany Collins of Dallas, Texas, Ch'Del Newman and Geralyn Bracey of South Bend, Dennis (Angie) Williams of Indianapolis, Ind., Terrance (Nicole) Newman of Graphingville, Germany, Jerry Bracey, Tois Jones, Carlton, John Travis and Justin Collins, Gilbert Bracey, Christopher and Erich Newman, all of South Bend. Also surviving are goddaughters, Shannon West and her two children, Latavia and Shaquille, Monique Northern and her three children, Keria, Drew and Deshawn; along with a host of relatives and many other friends who will fondly remember her.

Services for Ms. Bobbie Jean Collins will be held on Friday, June 20, in the Grace A.M.E. Zion Church, 1121 Vassar Ave., South Bend. Visitation will begin at noon. Funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow funeral service at Riverview Cemetery.
