Michael J. Chwalek, 50, of Rogers Street in Osceola, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2005, in Cadiz, Kentucky, following an ATV accident.

Mr. Chwalek was born September 22, 1954, to Joseph G. and Virginia Chwalek in South Bend, Indiana. His parents preceded him in death.

On April 8, 1978, Michael married the former Ms. Michele Treash in South Bend. Michele survives, along with two sons, Danny Chwalek and his companion, Venus Myles of Mishawaka, and Dorian Grove of Osceola; along with two daughters, Virginia Chwalek and her fiancée, Ryan Montgomery, and Kathy Chwalek of Osceola. Also surviving are a granddaughter, Azia Rayne Chwalek; two sisters, Jackie Jacobs of South Bend and Peggy Caprous of Valparaiso; and a brother-in-law, Gary Fritz.

Preceding Michael in death were his sister, Kathleen Fritz, and brother in law, George Jacobs.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2005, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, Indiana. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2005, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens where VFW Post #360 will conduct military honors.

Mr. Chwalek was a graduate of LaSalle High School, class of 1972. In May 1973 Michael joined the Navy and served his country honorably until his discharge in 1979. Following his military service, Michael went on to earn an associate degree in electronics from Ivy Tech, and later a bachelor's degree from IUSB in computer science. Michael was employed by the Bayer Corporation for 25 years, and held the position of manager of process control technology. In his spare time he enjoyed videogames, playing golf and poker, and teaching digital electronics and a math certification course at Ivy Tech. He also was loved by many and was a "Dad" to all kids he met.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Logan Center or to the Homeless Shelter of South Bend.

Michael will be lovingly missed by his family and many friends. His favorite quote was: "At the end of the day, all that matters is family and friends..."
