SOUTH BEND - Katherine Anna Marie Garwood, 47, passed away at 10:30 am, Thursday, May 2, 2013 in her residence after an extended illness. Katie was born September 1, 1965 at Selfridge Air Force Base in Mount Clemens, MI to Stephen and Josephine Sipocz.

Katie leaves behind her loving husband Mark Garwood, whom she married on July 25, 1992, and her beloved children, son, Gage Garwood, and daughter, Dana Garwood; her parents, Josephine and Stephen Sipocz; brothers, Joseph (Ellen) Sipocz, Stephen (Jill) Sipocz, Jr. and Andrew (Marissa) Sipocz; and sister, Jennifer (Bruce) Reith; stepdaughers, Lauren and Kelly Garwood; brothers-in-law, Mike (Lynn) Garwood, Dave and Neal Garwood; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Katie was a very quiet and gentle soul, she devoted her energy to nurturing her children, and she was very committed to their academic and religious education. Katie created a beautifully decorated home and environment for her family. She was a talented seamstress and crafter; she sketched, painted and loved antiques. She was a graduate of LaSalle High School in South Bend and Purdue University in West Lafayette.

On Saturday, May 4, 2013 a Rosary will be prayed prior to the 1:30 pm Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated for Katie in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family request Memorial Contributions be made to the family, 425 LaMonte Terrace, South Bend, IN 46616 to be placed in a trust for Gage and Dana's education.
