David Patrick Durkin, 69, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 9:32 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2026, in Memorial Hospital. David was born on August 21, 1956 in South Bend, Indiana to Joseph and Betty (Zgodzinski) Durkin. David and his wife Christine were the owners of Starlite Pizza on Ireland Road in South Bend. David had also worked for Chariot Vans in Elkhart. On August 31, 1991 in South Bend, he married Christine Krawiec, who survives. David is also survived by two daughters, Jennifer (Louis) Cwidak of South Bend, Indiana and Kristen (Jason) Turnage of Mishawaka, Indiana; three sons, Gregory (Kelli) Krawiec of Inman, South Carolina, Brian (Noelle) Krawiec and Daniel (Amie) Krawiec both of South Bend, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Kortni (Stephen) Moore, Gavin Krawiec, Matthew (Katie) Hamby, Aubrey Durkin, Aaron Krawiec, Gage Krawiec, Brooklyn Turnage, Roman Turnage and Joseph Cwidak; his sister, Kathy (Jim) Cypher of Linden, Michigan; his brother, Michael (Diane) Durkin of Fenton, Michigan; his sister-in-law, Mary Borowski; his brother-in-law, John (Sandi) Seanor; numerous nieces and nephews; and his two lifelong friends, Jim Cenkush and Kevin McIntyre. David was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Betty Durkin; his brother-in-law, Dennis Borowski; and his lifelong friend Jim Cassler. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2026 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with the Service immediately following. David enjoyed fishing at Hudson Lake with his grandchildren. Along with his love for Hudson Lake, he enjoyed playing “Euchre” with lake friends and “Oh hell” with his family that he always won because he was the score keeper. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be directed to the American Heart Association.
