Gwendolyn Ann Poindexter

Ms. Gwendolyn Ann Poindexter 68, loving daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend was called home to glory on Sunday June 26, 2022, at 8:20 PM. She passed away in her home in South Bend and was surrounded by her loving family.

Gwendolyn was born on July 24, 1953, in South Bend to the late Ernest Rice and Lena Poindexter. She was raised in a Christian home and confessed her hope in Christ at an early age at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Henry L. Giden Sr.

She was a 1971 graduate of the former LaSalle High School. During high school she was a member of the Girls Club, Bowling Club and Booster Club. After high school she received a degree from Ivy Tech State College. She was employed for 30 years by Saint Joseph County as a Real Estate Deputy Clerk in the Office of the Assessor.

Gwendolyn leaves to cherish her loving memory, two sons, Eric (and his wife, Tracina) Fikes and Carlos Kirkendolph; five grandchildren, Micheal Kirkendolph, Alyssa Kirkendolph, Jevon Kirkendolph, Aaron Fikes (her “Little Man”) and Mia Fikes; her loving, caring, and devoted caregiver and mother, Lena Poindexter; one nephew, Terrence (and his wife Shelly) Poindexter and their children Sydney, Sophia, Serena and Sean Poindexter; a special God brother Reverend William Ronny Jones; two special God sisters Juella Butts and Mary Smith all of South Bend; along with a host of cousins and other relatives and friends. Along with her father, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Gloria Jean Poindexter and other loved ones.

Gwendolyn was a kind, and soft-spoken woman with a beautiful smile. She was very close to her family and possessed many of the qualities of her beautiful mom – a sincere woman of God. She will forever be loved and remembered. She will be dearly missed by those who loved and knew her.
