Janeata Lynn Nash (Spiher) - Class Of 1967 VIEW PROFILE

Janeata Lynn Nash (Spiher)

Our darling, always known as Lynn, “shuffled off this mortal coil” at her home in South Bend.  She led a charmed life and had a peaceful demise - however the transition, at times, was a (rhymes with) stitch. For the record, she did not lose her battle after a lung transplant in 2011. When she died, the pulmonary fibrosis also died, so technically, it was a tie.

As noted by Shakespeare, her spirit was released from a roughly worn body, now free to explore the universe, an unfinished project.  Slow stitching.  Left behind, the mistress of sewing arts’ lifetime display of quilts, needlepoint, bargello, hand-sewn doll clothes, masterpieces from scraps of beautiful fabrics.…and three Pfaff machines.

Panera’s, JoAnn Fabric, Goodwill and Martin’s Deli anticipate they may experience significant hardship as a result of her loss.  Too, her beloved friend and fabric consultant, Ginny, in Rochester, MN, was a must see during every Mayo visit.

On her 73rd she half-jokingly noted birthday plans “for when I turn 103.” She felt her husband should consider, perhaps, ‘diamonds’ ?. He, however, was baffled by a reference to a baseball infield as a gift.

Lynn was well-balanced, smooth, memorable, complex yet simple, and improving with age.  Always.  Not only likable; lovable.  Her friendships, always for keeps, notably with Elsie Brown, Nancy Kielton, and Carol Nekvasil never wavered over sixty years.  Loyalty and love with a capital L.

A graduate of SB LaSalle HS, Lynn joined Indiana Bell for a career that spanned 30 years until her retirement in 1995.  With her soft, calm demeanor, switchboard savvy, she was the poster voice of ‘information please’, long distance, marketing, and her last, most unlikely role…six months as a propane-powered fork lift driver in the ATT warehouse. A fond farewell to Rosie the Riveter, she had become Lynn the Lifter.

Predeceased by her mother, Doris (Paris) Nash, and adopted father, Neal Nash.

Surviving: her husband Charles; daughter Jennifer (Robert) Lanchsweerdt  of South Bend; son, David  (Wendy) Kil, Bradenton, FL; stepson Michael (Rosie) Spiher, Chandler, AZ; stepdaughter, Nancy Vienup, Albuquerque, NM; sister Ann Carol Nash (John Mortakis), South Bend; stepbrother David (Sharon) Nash, Milford, IN; Two favorite nieces, Anna Christine, Baltimore, MD, & Sara (with no H), Chicago, IL.

She was the beloved Grammy to Robert, Magda, and Megan Lanchsweerdt; Chloe and Elle Kil; Niall and Alannah Spiher, and Oliver Ulysses Vienup.

Lynn’s mantra, the conservation motto of WW11;

“Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without”

The family plans a life celebration luncheon in her honor, 20Mar2022, the 1st day of spring.  Friends are invited to attend.  Please email jlanch@sbcglobal.net, prior to 18Mar2022, for location and time.
