John Grembowicz

John W. Grembowicz Jr

John W. Grembowicz Jr., 70, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2024, in his hometown of South Bend, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 21, 1953, to John W. Grembowicz Sr. and Mary Ann (Bejma) Grembowicz, John's life was a testament to his enduring spirit and the love he shared with those around him.

A proud graduate of LaSalle High School in 1972, John went on to build a fulfilling career, retiring from Koontz Wagner as an electrical assistant. It was there that he formed many lifelong friendships that he treasured deeply. John's dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his family and the joy he found in being a "dziadzia" to his eight grandchildren.

John's love story with his wife, Nancy (Wise) Grembowicz, began in South Bend, where they were united in marriage on January 13, 1995. Together, they created a loving home that includes John’s sons, John (Lisa) Grembowicz III, William (Nina) Grembowicz, and Nicholas Cabanaw. His grandchildren, Lily, Romeo, Aiden, John Michael, Quinn, Ana, Leo, and Michael, brought immense joy to his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy; his mother, Mary Ann and his loving sons and their spouses; his adored grandchildren; and his siblings, Susan Kobek, Lawrence (Terry) Grembowicz, Patricia (Mick) Banik, Thomas (Nancy) Grembowicz, Joseph Grembowicz, and Victoria (Joseph) Mlynarczyk. His close friend, Ande Haynes, also survives him. John was preceded in death by his father, John Grembowicz Sr., daughter, Angel Grembowicz, and son, Michael Grembowicz.

John's passion for life extended to his many interests. He was an active member of the ZB Falcons Conservation and ZB Falcons Nest 80. He had a love for golf that was unmatched and for 30 years, he pursued the elusive Z.B Falcons league's golf jacket with a mix of determination and humor. His love for the outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of camping, fishing, campfires, and stargazing. John was also a culinary enthusiast, known for smoking ribs for friends in Fairmount, Indiana, during James Dean Days and baking his famous cheesecakes.

His backyard was a sanctuary where he enjoyed his pool, pond, garden, and bird feeding area. Music, especially the blues, was a source of great pleasure for John, who loved to sing and had a knack for telling jokes, including his signature "dziadzia" jokes. A true sports fan, he supported the Chicago Bears, the White Sox, and Notre Dame with fervor. His Christmas village and flamingo decorations were a highlight of the holiday season for all who knew him.

John's legacy is one of laughter, love, and the simple pleasures of life. His presence was a light to those around him, and his memory will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Heartland Hospice, Beacon Oncology, Dr. Saqlain and the staff of infusion room nurses and the Memorial Hospital 10th floor nurses who took such wonderful care of John and made him feel like he was at home when in their care.

A Celebration of John’s Life will be held from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Z.B. Falcons, 323 S. Sheridan St. South Bend, IN 46619 on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Palmer Funeral Home – West Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
