Mark Lichnerowicz - Class Of 1972 VIEW PROFILE

Mark Lichnerowicz

Mark Q. "Licky" Lichnerowicz was born October 29, 1954 to John "Jack" and Margaret (Snider) Lichnerowicz in South Bend, Indiana.

While on yet another adventure with his best friend, Mike Wharton, Mark passed away in Cheyenne, Wyoming on August 26, 2016. 42 years earlier, on August 17, 1974, Mark married his soulmate, Susan "Susie" (Allriedge) and together their journey began.

Along with his wife, Mark is survived by his mother, Margaret Lichnerowicz of North Liberty, IN; his two sons, Jeffrey Lichnerowicz of North Liberty and Brett Lichnerowicz of Chicago; one sister, Connie (Mike) Szymczak of South Bend; one brother, Rollie (Jeri) Lichnerowicz of Vandalia, Michigan; his father and mother- in-law, Dick and Janet Allriedge of South Bend; three sisters-in-law, Debbie (Mike) Wheeler of Elkhart, Jaynie (Bill) Monahan of South Bend and Cindy McFarland of Mishawaka; and one brother-in-law, Jim Allriedge of South Bend. Mark was preceded in death by his father, John "Jack" Lichnerowicz, a brother, Juan Lichnerowicz, a sister-in-law, Wendy Allriedge, a niece, Erin Allriedge, and a great-niece, Abigail Grace Allriedge.

Mark proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1973-1977. From basic training, to Ft. Hood, TX, to Ft. Campbell, KY his experiences and circle of friends grew. Once back in South Bend, he and Susie would start their family raising two wonderful sons he was proud of, Jeff and Brett. He became a member of the Local 172 Plumbers and Pipefitters in 1978 and for 35+ years he ran numerous commercial jobs, made more friends and amassed many more colorful stories to tell.

Moving his family to a small farm in North Liberty in 1988, he relished owning a piece of the peaceful countryside. Always up for an adventure, he discovered horses, and joined the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Posse, as a reserve officer. His skills on horseback (ok, some funny but mostly cowboy worthy) and his ability to relate to anyone, enabled him to form strong bonds and regale funny tales. He loved NASCAR, football, spicy food, traveling, horse camping, singing to his dog, Taffy, watching Pawn Stars, Ancient Aliens, and while a diehard Democrat his whole life, Mark teased he would switch if he ever won the lottery. He was a man who would do anything for anyone, could fix or build anything, and was honest and hardworking. Taking early retirement from Local 172, as well as the Posse in 2013, Mark began his next chapter working with his friend, Mike. Together, they would refurbish VW busses and other various projects. Mark also tackled being a carpenter at the Noah's Ark Project in KY, because he enjoyed unique opportunities. His final trip, Mark was going to survive the "Burning Man Experience" in the Nevada desert. Taking their time crossing the country, in a VW bus they outfitted with a Subaru engine, Mark and Mike laughed together, met more people, and saw a spectacular sunset along the way, "but didn't spot any UFO's." After stopping in Cheyenne, WY for the night, this loving man with the heart of a cowboy took his final ride.
