Janelle Marie (Wensits) Mihay

Janelle Marie Mihay, 65, of South Bend, set out on the next grand adventure on July 31, 2022, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Janelle was born to the late Joseph and Lorraine (Cwidak) Wensits in South Bend, IN, on September 23, 1956. On July 15, 1995, Janelle married John Mihay in South Bend, IN.
Janelle graduated from LaSalle High School. She went on to become a legal secretary for many years working at Barnes & Thornburg, Anderson Agostino & Keller and other law firms in the Michiana area. During those early years she participated in the Michiana Slow Pitch Softball League on the team Legal Motions. Janelle had a caring heart and kind spirit that led her to later work as a CNA in the area as well.

Janelle was always willing to join a new adventure, traveling to many places throughout her life and frequenting the southwest to visit with her sister, Marlene. Janelle enjoyed being outdoors among nature, often hiking in Potato Creek with her husband, sisters and dogs. She spent time camping and kayaking in many National Forests with her group of girlfriends. She deeply cared for animals and spent many years rescuing abused and neglected dogs, cats and especially turtles, which earned her the nickname "Turtlemihay." More than anything Janelle loved to spend time with her loved ones enjoying a pale ale.
Janelle is survived by her husband, John Mihay; siblings, Bruce Wensits, Marlene Brown, Kristine (Scott) Mitchell, and Rebecca (Dave) Thibodeaux; and her nephews that she always spoke of with love and pride, Matthew (Pari) Thibodeaux and Tyler (Becca) Thibodeaux. Janelle is also survived by her beloved fur children, pitbull mixes, "Tank" and "Angel."
