ROBERT C. JONES

June 1, 1964 - Feb. 3, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Robert Christopher Jones, age 49, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away at 12:16 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014, at his residence in Southfield, MI, following a lengthy illness. Robert was born June 1, 1964, in South Bend, IN, to Robert and Mertice (Baldwin) Jones.

He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1983. He attended Oral Roberts University, Jordan College where he received an Associate Degree in Music, and Mary Grove College where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Music. He worked as a teacher for over ten years at Oak Park School in Southfield, MI.

Survivors left to cherish his loving memory include his mother, Mertice Elizabeth Jones; the other mother figure in his life, Betty Kirk; sisters, Bertha Jones, Jacqueline Jones, Brenda (Henry) Zachary, Kerah Jones, Cassandra Newhouse and Chantay Kirk; also Robert's niece who was raised as a sister, Candace (Richard) Mack; brothers, Jonathan (Jamie) Jones, Keith (Jessie) Kirk, Karey Newhouse, Kevin (Ann) Kirk, Donald (Angel) Jones and Ricky (Debra) Ward; a goddaughter, Jenai Joe; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Jones; and a special godson, Xavier Joe.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Pentecostal Cathedral Church of God in Christ, with viewing occurring one hour prior to services. Arrangements are entrusted to Alford's Mortuary. www.alfordsmortuaryinc.com
