William “Scooter” Dixon

Apr. 21, 1960 - Jan. 1, 2018

MESQUITE, TEXAS - William “Scooter” Dixon answered the calling of our Heavenly Father on January 1, 2018, and went home to join his Kingdom above. 

He was born April 21, 1960 in Macon, Mississippi to Willie B. Dixon and to the late Rebecca Dixon. William was the third of eight children. He was educated in the South Bend, Indiana school system.

William accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. William was a member of Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas where he was a part of the Safety Ministry. He was united in holy matrimony with Lora Ann Owens on August 25, 1995, and was a devoted husband, son, father, brother, and friend. 

On June 19, 1979 he was inducted into the United States Army where he was a part of the Company B, 863rd Engineer Battalion (Combat)(Heavy). After becoming active in service, he participated in military campaigns in Iraq for which he received several awards including, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (awarded twice), Army Achievement Medal (awarded five times), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (awarded six times), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (awarded twice), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, and Iraq Campaign Medal.) He was inducted into the Royal Order of the Tackle February 23, 2006, as an honorary member for his service and honorably discharged May 31, 2006. Further extending his commitment to service, he joined the American Legion, 5th District in 2010 in which he served as the Hubmaster.

William was preceded in death by his mother Rebecca Dixon, brother Freddy Dixon, sister in-law Patricia Hooper, and brother in-law Charles Mack. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Lora Dixon, son Joshua Dixon, siblings Willie (Shauntae), Levon, Mary, Barbara, Dennis, and Michelle Dixon, sister in-laws Hattie Thomas, Barbara Mack, Yvonne Hooper, Lela Robertson (Lionel), brother in-law Greg Owens, two loving and special friends Kenneth and Erica Bradley and an abundance of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.”

Visitation for William will take place 5:00pm to 7:00pm Friday, January 12, 2018 in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd, South Bend. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00pm, Saturday, January 13, 2018 with Rev. Steven R. Barnes officiating in the Funeral Home.
