Engaged to be married in 1973 to Gerald Libertowski but disappeared two months later. He was acquitted of her murder. The body has never been found.

A  South Bend, Ind., builder has been charged with the murder in connection with the slaying of a former Battle Creek resident.

Gerald C. Libertowski, 34, is accused of slaying Janeice Langs, 21, in November 1973. She disappeared at that time and her body has not been found, according to South Bend police, who said she once lived with Libertowski.

Libertowski also has been charged with murder by the Berrien County prosecutor in connection with the death of Janis Sanders, who also lived with Libertowski at one time. She disappeared in July 1975 and her body has not been found.

Libertowski’s arrest came after a business associate told South Bend police that he helped dispose of Miss Lang’s car. Parts of her car were recovered by police.

South Bend police searched Libertowski’s  home Tuesday and reported finding traces of blood in a drain and a fine white powder. A wallet containing Miss Langs’s name also was found in the basement. Police plan to continue the search for the bodies on a farm near Buchanan.

According to a member of the Langs family here, Janeice and Libertowski were engaged to be married in the late summer of 1973, but she had broken off the relationship about two months before her disappearance.

She was born in Battle Creek, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Langs, now of Kissimmee, Fla. The family moved from Battle Creek to Flint about 19 years ago and were residing in South Bend when Janeice disappeared .

She was a frequent visitor to Battle Creek and was here just two days before she was reported missing. She was employed by a South Bend loan company.

Her brother is Charles W. Langs Jr. of South Bend, and there are two sisters, Diane Langs of South Bend, and Lori Langs of Kissimmee. Her paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Truman H. Langs of 402 Taylor Ave. and her maternal grandmother is Viola Davis of 220 N. Ridgeway Drive.
