Candy Kay (Willis) Wiener
August 04, 2023, Candy Kay Wiener, 67, of South Bend, IN, passed away with family by her side.
Family meant everything to Candy. Candy was fiercely loyal to her large family. Candy, the fifth of seven children, was born on September 19, 1955 to Herschel and Mary (Smith) Willis. Not a day went by that she didn't talk or text with one of her sisters, JoMary (John) Temple, Connie (Bob) Price, Roxane (Pat) Temple, Crystal Willis, and Tina (Doug) Kaczorowski. Candy's brother Ron (Mona) Willis is the lone man in the group of sisters.
After graduating from LaSalle high school in 1973, Candy had a chance encounter with Sterling W. Wiener at Boonie Doons, both claiming the other started the flirting. Shortly thereafter, Candy tied the knot with Sterling. For the next fifty years they drove each other crazy with love, bickering, raising a family, road trips, wrangling dogs, antiquing, and being companions.
Candy and Sterling would take frequent cross country road trips to visit their daughter Donna "Peanut" Norum and their much adored grandchildren Andrew, Maxine, and Vivian. Candy loved spending time with the grandkids visiting Southern California and being involved in their day to day lives.
Local road trips had them heading south to see their oldest son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Brenda Wiener, their beloved grandkids Chris Gilbert and Kayla (Ben) House, and great grandkids Zyan and Greyson. Candy always wished her grandkids and great grandkids were closer so she could spoil them more often.
Luckily, Candy's youngest son, Bryan Wiener stayed in South Bend. Bryan was the apple of her eye and they were thick as thieves.
Candy was a devout Christian and was active with the church and her church family. Candy was a stay-at-home mom and later went back to school to become a Registered Nurse.
Candy loved to read and craft. Over the years she excelled at many hobbies from cake decorating, crochet, and stepping stones to gardening and canning. Spending time with family was her favorite. To sum it up, Candy was family oriented, creative, generous, and could have a hard outer shell that housed a soft emotional center.
Candy's canine companions were dear to her and considered part of her family. Sparky and Rusty have stayed behind with Sterling. Lady, Sheba, and Sammy are getting belly rubs and walks with her in heaven.
Candy was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sept. 2, 2023 from 1 - 4 p.m., Lydick United Methodist Church, 26510 West Edison Road, South Bend, 46628.
