Martin Allen Jeffrey, 40, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2005, in Memorial Hospital.

Martin was born on March 16, 1965, in South Bend, IN, to Max Robert Jeffrey Sr. and Virginia Baczkowski Jeffrey. He was employed as the chief probationary officer with the City of Elkhart.

Survivors include his daughter, Paige Marie Jeffrey of Niles, MI; his son, Tyler Martin Jeffrey of Niles, MI; his mother and stepfather, Virginia and Everett Hogie of South Bend, IN; his sister, Cheryl Louise (Mark) Levy of Knoxville, TN; three brothers, Vincent Mark (Starlene) Jeffrey of Bremen, IN, Max Robert (Diana June) Jeffrey Jr. of Mooresville, IN, Thomas Michael (Debra) Jeffrey of South Bend, IN; his former wife, Dena Gamble of Niles, MI; one stepsister, Marian (Frank) Appleton of South Bend, IN; one stepbrother, Brian (Judy) Hogie of South Bend, IN; and by several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2005, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m.

Martin was a 1985 graduate of LaSalle High School and had received his degree in criminology in 1989 from Indiana University-South Bend. Martin was a member of the Simeri's Old Town Tap Softball Team.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.  And let the perpetual light shine upon them.  May they rest in peace.  And may the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
