Lived and worked in Albuquerque, NM, Sacramento, CA and Temple, TX. Retired in Jacksonville, FL. Of all the places we’ve lived, New Mexico was the most difficult to leave. Kathy had a place in town and I had a place 30 miles North, outside of the old Spanish village Placitas. We would spend the week at her place in Albuquerque and my place in Placitas on the weekends. I met my Kathy in Albuquerque, learned to Ski in Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico. Went Elk hunting in the mountains near Taos and raised two beautiful German Shepards. Nearly 20 years there and then I got a job opportunity in Sacramento. California was interesting but ultimately not for us. I did land a gig at a defense company, Aerojet, in Rancho Cordova. There I saw some of the absolutely most amazing things. Aerojet built both solid rocket motors and liquid fueled engines. They were also a prime subcontractor for the frame of the F-22. My team serviced the desktop PCs and printers throughout the 12,000 acre site, I had access to everything except the highest security areas. After ten years in Sacramento, it was on to Temple, Texas where we fulfilled our dream of owning and restoring a historic home. Our neighbors were wonderful and the overall pace of life was very comfortable. We picked up our third German Shepard, Rocky. Kathy initially worked for a big hospital corporation in Temple, then went on the road as a consultant. I spent my time working on the home. Eight years in Texas and Kathy got a job offer she couldn’t refuse in Jacksonville, FL. She has since retired and now we spend our time doing retired people things. I fix stuff that breaks and Kathy reminds me of what needs to be fixed next.

As a kid, I didn’t do normal girl things; I built model airplanes. I loved aviation and space exploration but, I had to be practical, there were not many females in aviation unless you were a stewardess. So, I followed another passion, painting. This path led me to Indiana University where I received my bachelors and master’s degrees. I had the privilege of teaching art (K – 12) in several Indiana school systems. But I needed a new challenge so I started working on my doctorate at Indiana University. While working on my doctorate, I discovered instructional design that incorporated structure and logic on how to design instruction. I took some computer-based education courses and discovered computer simulations. I was hooked! My strength was that I could envision how all simulation components were inter-related and allowed me to utilize all my skills. I also pursued my dream of getting my private pilot license. I began my instructional design career developing automotive service technician mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems courses and developed interactive simulations. Later, I taught game design (level design/world building). I instilled in my students that the 3D world had to be believable – derived from a strong story and always keep in mind the player’s experience. And…. Then I was called to a new path, when I received a call from General Dynamics that they needed an instructional designer to work on a Department of Defense (DoD) scenario-based simulation projects that included collaborating with military personnel to write engaging branching scenarios. Now that I am retired, my husband and I have taken numerous cruises to the Greek Islands, Europe and the Caribbean with more trips to come .
