William W. Grounds

William W. Grounds Jr., 53, of Buchanan, Mich., formerly of South Bend, was called home to be with his Lord at 8:31 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2006, in the Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, Mich., from injuries sustained during work in Three Rivers, Mich. Mr. Grounds was born on October 18, 1952, in South Bend and had lived in Buchanan since 1990, moving from South Bend. On July 3, 1982, in South Bend, he married the former Lynn G. Smith, who survives.
Along with his wife, Lynn, survivors include one daughter, Bijana Devo (Kristy Lockwitz) of Portland, Oregon; three sons, William W. (Carrie) Grounds III of Buchanan, Matthew (Jennifer) Fisher of Stevensville, and Adam (Alicia) Fisher of Buchanan; seven grandchildren; his mother, Cherie Grounds of Barboursville, W. Va.; one sister, Cindy Grounds of South Bend; and two brothers, Richard (Rochelle) Grounds of Bremen and Robert (Debbie) Grounds of Barboursville. William was preceded in death by his father, William W. Grounds Sr.
Mr. Grounds worked with Stalkers Heating and Air Conditioning, South Bend. He had been a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 20, South Bend for 25 years. Mr. Grounds was also a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Margaret Grounds will officiate. Cremation will take place at Southlawn Cremation Services, South Bend.
