Thomas Eugene O’Chap

Thomas Eugene O’Chap, 52, of Sandybrook Drive in South Bend, Ind., passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, in Hospice House, South Bend.
Mr. O’Chap was born on Aug. 30, 1949, in South Bend, to the late Eugene Joseph O’Chap and Alice (Rybicki) O’Chap of Mishawaka, Ind. On March 25, 1978, Thomas married the former Kristina J. Kerschner, his wife of 23 years, who survives. He is also survived by his mother; a daughter, Stephanie O’Chap of Decatur, Ga.; a brother, Gerald A. O’Chap of Mishawaka; and by nieces, Erin and Jennifer Glueckert of South Bend.
His son, Thomas John O’Chap, preceded him in death on Aug. 17, 2001.
Tom graduated from LaSalle High School in 1967. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in DaNang during the Vietnam War. He was an instructor in the aerospace lab at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. In 1981, Tom joined the Bendix Corporation, now Honeywell. In recent years he traveled the world as a customer service engineer in Engine Systems & Accessories.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon until time of services on Thursday.
