Barrier dies when car flips on U.S. 20

Billy E. Barrier Jr., 30, of 52888 Shellbark, was dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital after he was thrown from his car in what state police describe as a highspeed accident on U.S. 20 west of South Bend about 3:45 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Barrier was westbound on U.S. 20 near Poppy Road when he apparently lost control of his car. According to police. Barrier's car went up on the shoulder of the roadway then back on U.S. 20 and flipped over several times, throwing the driver from the vehicle. police said.

Barrier was an iron worker and a member of Ironworkers Local 292. South Bend.

Born on Oct. 11, 1949. in South Bend, he had lived here all his life. He was to have been married this summer to Miss Patti Bailey of South Bend. He is survived by his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Barrier Sr. of South Bend: two daughters, Michelle Marie and Tina Maree, both at home: a sister, Mrs. Diana Lynn Clark of South Bend: two brothers, Stephen Eugene of Laurel Hill. Fla., and Jeffrey Allen of Rio Rancho. N.M.: his paternal grandmother. Mrs. Zadie L. Myers of Elkhart and his. paternal grandfather. William C. Barrier of South Bend.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Hollis Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave. Rev. David Rowe of the Apostolic Temple will officiate. Entombment will be in Riverview Mausoleum. Friends may call from 7 10 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.

He was a 1968 graduate of LaSalle High School
