Carol Rembold

Carole Rembold Chmiel

Jan. 16, 1950 - Oct. 25, 2018

MISHAWAKA, IN - Carole Ann (Rembold) Chmiel, 68, born January 16, 1950, in New Albany to Richard M. and Marcheta J. (Hemenway) Rembold, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, at Hospice in Roseland at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 25, 2018.

She graduated from LaSalle High School in South Bend. Starting as a cadet teacher, she used her passion for teaching all her life, including as a home educator to her youngest sons. She met her husband of nearly 42 years, Jesse B. Chmiel in South Bend and they were married on November 12, 1977.

Carole is survived by her husband; two daughters, Judith L. (Rob) Hartzell of Mishawaka and Tina M. (Robert) Gill of Fort Wayne; three sons, Christopher A. (Monica) of Longview, TX, Joel A. (Pepper) of Goshen, and Jesse J. (Brett) of South Bend; siblings, Kim P. Mozick of Boonsboro, MD, Richard M. Rembold, Jr. of Mishawaka, and Mark S. Rembold of New Carlisle; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; along with many nieces and nephews.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter.

For over 45 years, Carole volunteered her time serving as a minister of Jehovah's Witnesses, conducting Bible study programs with a number of students. Even after being diagnosed with cancer, she continued to dedicate her time and passion to volunteering in her ministry work, actively sharing Bible knowledge and hope in the Mishawaka community.

Carole excelled at starting conversations, maintaining life-long friendships, making her home warm and inviting, and being a loving mom and grandmother. She enjoyed every opportunity to dance and socialize with friends, often engaging in conversation even after an event “officially” ended. She was always ready to plan and host a social event or visit those who needed encouragement.

Later in life, she and her husband spent a year in Tucson, AZ and three years in Goshen, IN, prior to returning to Mishawaka, IN. Through these travels, in the true nature of Carole, she formed many new friendships and close bonds. She had a zest for life, a fun sense of humor, and a genuine love for people. She was truly loved in return.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, Nov. 2 at Billings Funeral Home at 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2431 Filbert Rd., Mishawaka, IN.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mishawaka Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses at 2431 Filbert Rd., Mishawaka, IN 46545.
