Patricia "Patty" Guin Crabill (Hanna), 71, of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16th, at her home in Ellenton, Florida.
Born Patricia (“Patty”) Crabill on October 4, 1954, in South Bend, she was the eldest daughter of Charles and Eleanor Crabill. Patty graduated from LaSalle High School and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Accounting from IUSB, followed by an MBA from the Indiana Institute of Technology. Her career in accounting spanned several organizations, most notably Grace United Methodist Church, where she and Rick were longtime members, and Ave Maria Press, where she served as Controller for 13 years before retiring in 2023.
Patty was best known for her love of hosting; a wonderful cook, she loved sharing her passion with others and could always be counted on for a full house for every holiday. With her husband, Rick, she spent years opening their home for Notre Dame home football games as a B&B, meeting traveling fans from around the world.
Her commitment to others extended beyond her home. Patty and Rick were active in the South Bend community, sponsoring a breakfast for those in need at Broadway Church for many years.
In retirement, Patty embraced life by the water—whether relaxing on the family houseboat on Lake Michigan or enjoying the sunshine at their Florida home. She was also an avid reader who loved books, often spending quiet afternoons immersed in a novel. Above all, she treasured her role as ‘Grammy,’ creating joyful memories with her five beloved grandchildren.
Patty is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Richard (“Rick”) Hanna; her children Rebecca (Matt) Miller and Richard (Kailey) Hanna, and five grandchildren, Canaan, Charlotte, Christian, Betty, and Lincoln. Patty also leaves behind her siblings Ed (DeeAnn) Crabill, Sue (Bill) Barnard, and Greg (Billie) Crabill along with numerous members of her extended family. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles, mother, Eleanor, and her siblings Carol, Jackie, and Mike.
A Memorial Service will be held on January 10th at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in South Bend.
