SOUTH BEND - Michele M. (Rulli) Gates, 58, of South Bend, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born on September 28, 1954, to the late Anthony Rulli and Georgianne (Hazinski) Richardson in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. On July 21, 1991, as Michele Rulli, she married James Gates, who preceded her in death on May 24, 2007.

Michele is survived by her daughters, Jamie Beechler of Mishawaka, IN, and Caritina Gomez of South Bend; her son, Raymundo Gomez; step-son, Antonio Gates of South Bend; six grandchildren, Joseph, Brandis, Antonio Jr., Cailie, Bryce and Samantha; and by her brother, Vito (Amy) Rulli of North Liberty, IN.

Mrs. Gates loved working as a foster grandparent for Real Services, Inc. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking for them. She loved spending the weekends with her grandchildren as they filled her with much joy. Everything she did was with a smile on her face. Being a mother was most rewarding for her. She had so much love for her children and made sure it was known. She loved to garden and spending time in the sunshine. Though she has passed on to eternal life, her life here on Earth will never be forgotten.

A service of her memory will be held on Saturday, January 5, at 11:00 am at Lakeside Baptist Church by her brother and Pastor, Vito Rulli. A lunch will follow. Memorial contributions may be made C/O Michele Gates, Lakeside Baptist Church, 515 Michigan Trail, Lakeville, IN 46536. Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN, is handling arrangements.
