Peggy D. (Sovinski) Jud, 71, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026. She was born on March 17, 1955, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Richard Sovinski and Betty (Bishop) Sovinski.
Peggy was a graduate of LaSalle High School and later earned her associate’s degree. She devoted many years to working in the healthcare field as a medical technician. Later, she retired from Martin's Super Market (ND location) Deli Department after 10 years, where she cultivated life-long friendships.
Family was at the heart of Peggy’s life. She was a loving mother and grandmother who treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved. She found happiness in the simple things—gathering around the table for a meal, playing Yahtzee, visiting the casino, getting lost in a good book, or spending time at the library.
Peggy had many interests throughout her life. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing softball and ping pong. She also had a special story from her childhood—she was such an adorable little girl that J.C. Penney once wanted her to model for them.
Those who knew Peggy will remember her beautiful, big smile and her warm, welcoming personality. She loved collecting Precious Moments figurines and took great pleasure in caring for her plants and flowers. She enjoyed the peaceful sounds of her wind chimes, watching butterflies, and the comfort of her sound machine. Her beloved dog, Kobe, was her faithful companion for 15 years and held a special place in her heart.
Peggy was a lifelong Notre Dame fan but also cheered for Purdue University as a proud mom of her sons Joe and Ryan, who graduated from Purdue.
Peggy leaves behind her sons, Joseph (Jessica) Jud and Ryan (Jennifer) Jud; her grandchildren, Shepard, Lilly, Alexa, and Taylor; her brothers, Paul (Brenda Sands) Sovinski and Patrick (Sarah) Sovinski, sister-in-law, Debbie Sovinski; along with numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Kay Meyer, Jan Gavin, and Pete Sovinski.
Peggy was a former member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, where her faith was an important part of her life. Above all, she will be remembered for her love of family, her gentle heart, her warm smile, and the many simple moments of joy she shared with those around her.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer Chapel.
