Jay L. Gillis, 56, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 8:45pm Friday, September 1, 2006 at Ironwood Health & Rehabilitation Center, following an illness.
He was born on August 10, 1950 to the late John and Florence (Wilkinson) Gillis in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident of German Township in South Bend.
Mr. Gillis was a long time employee of St. Joseph County.
He is survived by Julie A. Hedl, the love of his life, who resides in South Bend, IN; one daughter, Jaime Gillis of Mishawaka, IN; one son, Jason Gillis of South Bend, IN; one brother, John D. (wife Penny) Gillis of South Bend, IN; and his beloved dog, Spanky D.
Jay enjoyed motorcycles, ATV�s and Jeeps. He was also an avid NASCAR fan.
Visitation will be from 4-8pm Monday, September 4, 2006 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, with Rev. Donald Bayne, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
