SOUTH BEND - Joshua C. Giden began his life in South Bend, Indiana, on June 13, 1983, when he was born to the union of Dennis R. and Gwendolyn R. (Sutherland) Giden Sr. Joshua was reared in South Bend where he was educated. In 2001 he graduated from LaSalle High School where he sang in the Swing Choir. Joshua attended IUSB where he earned a degree in business. For the past year Joshua had been employed by the Marriott Hotel as a front desk clerk. Previously he had worked in data entry for the Press-Gainey Associates. Among his favorite things were music and cooking. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Niles, MI, under the leadership of his father. At Bethlehem he served in several ministries such as the choir, Sunday school, youth department and church bulletins. Joshua's earthly life ended Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the age of 25. He passed away in Bernard Mitchell Hospital, Chicago, IL, following an illness. He was a resident of Rue Gauguin Street, South Bend. Loving family members who survive to cherish Joshua's memory include his father, Rev. Dennis R. (Loretta) Giden Sr.; three sisters, Seianna Giden, Michelle Giden and Sardius Giden of South Bend; two stepsisters, RaShonda Gunn of Mishawaka and Terena Love of South Bend; four brothers, Dennis R. Giden Jr., Marcus D. (Latoya) Giden, Lawrence L. Giden and Andrew L. Giden, all of South Bend; maternal grandparents, Clarence and Mildred Sutherland; paternal grandparents, Rev. Henry L. and Johnnie Giden Sr. of South Bend; aunts, Cacelia Williams of Atlanta, GA, Wanda Parchman of Los Angeles, CA, and Delsie (Gordon) Young of Oregon; uncles, Michael (Diatha) Sutherland of Texas, Frederick (Linda) Sutherland Sr., Greg Sutherland Sr., Henry L. Giden Jr., and a step-uncle, Jon Williams, all of South Bend; a step-niece, Shila Parker of Mishawaka, IN; nephews, Marcus Giden Jr. and Jeremiah Love; and a special friend, Catrinka Priestly, all of South Bend; along with a host of cousins, other relatives and friends and the Bethlehem Church family. Preceding Joshua in death were his mother, Gwendolyn Giden; and two uncles, Clarence Sutherland Jr. and Marshall Sutherland. Services for Mr. Giden will be held at noon Monday, July 21, in Faith Apostolic Church. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
