In Memory
James Edward Browning
November 3, 1980 ~ September 10, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Edward Browning, affectionately known as "JB," who left this world on September 10, 2025, at the age of 44. Born in South Bend, Indiana, on November 3, 1980, JB was the beloved son of Robert Earl Browning and Deborah Ann (Kendall) Browning.
JB was a man of many talents and even more heart. As a maintenance manager in the fabrication industry, he was known for his tireless work ethic and ability to fix just about anything. Whether it was a stubborn engine or a leaky faucet, JB had the know-how and the determination to make it right. But beyond his skills, it was his spirit that truly defined him—he never met a stranger, and he never turned away someone in need. His helping hand and warm smile were constant in the lives of those lucky enough to know him.
A proud former member of Portage Prairie Church, JB carried his faith, living it out through acts of kindness and unwavering loyalty to his family and friends. He was a devoted father to Jade Browning and Avery Browning, and a loving partner to Ashley Palmer. He also embraced his role as a stepfather to Ethan Thornhill and Ashton Smith, guiding them with patience and pride.
JB is survived by his cherished grandmother Mae Kendall; his brother Charles Browning and sister-in-law Jessica; niece Kristina; nephews Bryndan and Landon; his long-time best friend Mike Spencer and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss his laughter and generosity. He was preceded in death by Lynn Kendall, Genevive Browning (Emery), and Lester Browning.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, JB lettered in football, baseball, and wrestling during his school years. His heart, however, beat maize and blue—he was a die-hard University of Michigan fan. “Go Blue!” wasn’t just a cheer; it was a way of life.
JB’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and laughter. He was the glue in a tight-knit family, the friend you could always count on, and the kind of man who made the world better just by being in it.
A celebration of JB’s life will be on October 11, 2025 from 12 pm- 4pm at Portage Road General Baptist; 1765 Portage Rd, Niles, MI 49120. Palmer Funeral Home- Hoven Chapel is assisting the family.
