Nancy (Mathews) Hankins

Nancy Hankins, 73, of Granger, Indiana passed away at 8:42 a.m. Friday, December 26, 2025 in Memorial Hospital. Nancy was born on March 23, 1952 in South Bend, Indiana to Bill and Jenny (Deguch) Mathews.
She retired in 2016 from the South Bend Medical Foundation where she was employed for 39 years. On June 19, 1982, in Niles, Michigan, she married Roscoe Hankins, who preceded her in death on March 24, 2021.
She was also preceded in death by her father, Bill Matthews; mother, Jenny White; step-father, Clarence White; one sister, Connie Anderson; and one brother-in-law, Robert Anderson. Nancy is survived by her nephew, Bill (Maria) Anderson, and her niece, Ginny (Chris) Matthys, and their children: Austin, Alex, and Andrew Anderson; Margaret and Nicholas Matthys; and great-great-niece Emma Anderson, daughter of Austin Anderson.
A lifelong lover of animals Nancy loved many pets throughout her lifetime. Most notably her dogs Rusty, Blossom, Freckles, Sierra and Travis. She spoiled them with lots of love and treats in their lives with her. Nancy was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed spending time with family taking in races at Brickyard and collecting memorabilia.
No services will be held. Contributions can be made to Homeward Bound Animal Rescue. Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
