Evelyn (Gooden) Henry was born on March 3, 1958, in South Bend, IN to Louis Gooden Sr. and Anna Mae (Goins) Gooden. She was the middle child out of six children: Louis Jr., Larry, Diane, Melba, and Pamela.

At the age of 12, Evelyn joined the Girl Scouts of America. She graduated from LaSalle High School in South Bend, Indiana, in 1976. She dedicated her life to the Lord during that time. Shortly after high school, Evelyn attended Vogue Beauty College where she received her cosmetology license. She also graduated from Saint Louis Public Schools Practical Nursing Program in 1987. Evelyn retired in 2021 from Saint Mary’s Convent after a fulfilling 34-year career in nursing, during which she made a lasting impact on countless lives through her compassionate expertise and dedication to healthcare.

Evelyn had a rich and diverse array of hobbies that brought her joy and creativity. She had a natural talent for playing both the piano and organ, often filling her home with beautiful music. Singing was another one of her passions, where she could express herself and enjoy the rhythm of a good tune. In addition to her musical talents, Evelyn loved to sew, creating beautiful garments and accessories with her own hands. She had a knack for baking and cooking, often experimenting with recipes and making delicious meals and treats for her family. Traveling is something Evelyn truly enjoyed, as she loved visiting family and friends. Taking care of her children and grandchildren was the main source of happiness for her, and she treasured the time spent with them.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her cherished grandfather, George Goins; her loving grandmother, Betty Goins; her devoted mother, Anna Mae (Goins) Gooden; her father, Louis Gooden Sr.; her brother, Louis Gooden Jr.; her sister, Melba (Gooden) Johnson; and her dear aunt, Dorothy (Goins) Granger.
