Marvin Alexander Jr

Rev. Marvin A. Alexander Jr.

November 9, 1971 ~ August 9, 2020 (age 48)

Reverend Marvin Alexander, Jr. was born on November 9, 1971 to the union of Marvin Alexander, Sr. and Mary (Coleman) Alexander in South Bend, IN. He attended and graduated from LaSalle High School where he was a member of the track team and marching band. Reverend Alexander followed in his father and mother’s footsteps by attending their alma mater, Alcorn State University in Lorman, MS. He majored in mathematics and received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Reverend Alexander was employed for 15 years as a manager at Walgreens. He also worked for several year at Lowes. At the time of his passing Reverend Alexander was employed by South Bend Community School Corporation as a 7th grade math teacher at Navarre Middle School.

Reverend Alexander was a devoted son, father, and family man. He gave his life to Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Pastor FD Johnson of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Marvin later moved his membership to Progressive Missionary Baptist Church where he faithfully served in the capacity of Sunday school teacher, Pastor’s Aide treasurer, choir member, and trustee. In 2018 Reverend Alexander received the ultimate call to service, to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. He joyously accepted the call and received his license on September 29, 2019.  The title of his message was. “I will Look to the Hills,” Psalm 121. Just like his father, Reverend Alexander was a tremendous supporter, friend, and advisor to Pastor Spencer. Marvin enjoyed the word of God. His unique ability to recall scriptures verse by verse without misquoting the text was commended by Pastor Spencer and admired by all at Progressive. His favorite saying was “God is good All the time, and All the time God is good”.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Mary Alexander; three daughters Skylar Alexander, Ava Alexander, and Olivia Alexander of South Bend; two brothers Marcus Alexander of Phoenix AZ, and Michael Alexander of South Bend; one uncle Jonathan Alexander of South Bend; aunts Mary Wilson (Ron), Irene Robinson of South Bend, O’Nell Tanner of Hazlehurst, MS, extended family members - uncle Bishop L. Donald (Mary) Alford Sr.; and aunts  Janice Marable of South Bend; and Delores Sledge of Riverside California; god-brother James (Kim Clark), and a host of cousins and friends.

Marvin was proceeded in death by his father Marvin Alexander, Sr., and fraternal and maternal grandparents

Psalms 27:4 “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in His temple.”
