Mark A. Merrill

• June 16, 1956 - April 7, 2012

Mark A. Merrill, 55, of Granger, IN, passed away peacefully in his sleep, at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012, in his home.

He was born on June 16, 1956 to Jack and Blanche (Gilchrist) Merrill in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Jack Merrill; and two brothers, Jeff Merrill and Willie Sanderson.

Mark graduated from LaSalle High School in 1974 and from Ivy Tech in 1996, where he graduated as a Journeyman Electrician.

Mr. Merrill retired on February 12, 2011, as an Electrician, with IBEW Local #153 Electrical Union, after 14 years. He was also very proud of previously owning his own electrical business, Merrill Electric.

He is survived by his mother, Blanche Sanderson of Mishawaka, IN; his daughter, Aubrey Merrill of Indianapolis, IN; his son, Brandon Merrill of Austin, TX; two sisters, Tammie Merrill of South Bend, IN; Lori (Gary) Gotha of Osceola, IN; and three brothers, Jack, Jr. (Michele) Merrill of South Bend, IN; Randy (Michelle) Merrill of Mishawaka, IN; and Mike Merrill of South Bend, IN.

Mark loved to play guitar and sing karaoke. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, camping, working in his backyard garden and learning about his Sioux Indian Heritage. He also relished coaching his son Brandon's little league baseball teams.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN, with Pastor Philip Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
