Kathryn (Kathy) L. Kanczuzewski, 73, died on June 30, 2025 in the Brickyard Healthcare in LaPorte.
Kathryn was born on December 20, 1951 in South Bend, to Wilbur and Doris (Walters) Newgent. She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur, and her mother, Doris Newgent; deceased siblings, Robert Newgent, Joseph Newgent, Thomas Newgent, and Carol Jordanek.
Left to cherish in the memory of Kathryn are her children, Sara (Louis Jaronik) Edgil, Shawna Canarecci and one son, Scott (Sara) Breeding Sr.; grandchildren, Scott Breeding, Jr. Morgan Breeding, Cooper Breeding, Connor Breeding, Emily (Tyler) Maggert, Anthony (Mariah) Boal, Anna Clare Boal Nies, Andreas Canarecci, Angelo Canarecci, Andriano Canarecci. Shawn Canarecci, Jr; great-grandchildren, Rylee Boal, Rayna Boal, Rayden Boal, Ella Maggert, Adlee Maggert; brother, Michael (Sharol) Newgent; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She worked as a cook at many area restaurants, Beacon Bowl, Harvest Inn, Touch of Texas, Brammer Udder Place, Mr. Moo, and finally at Madison Center Hospital for 18 years. She enjoyed having family around her. Watching her grandchildren in sports, and supporting the family at the demolition derby at the South Bend Speedway. Kathryn also enjoyed hosting cookouts and parties at her house. Most of all, she liked sitting in her chair in front of her big picture window watching the world go by as she called it.
Visitation for Kathryn will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., with a Funeral Service to begin at 12:00 pm and burial to immediately follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
