Anthony R. Reid
Feb. 24, 1973 – Nov. 6, 2004
Anthony Renaldo Reid, 41, the son of the late Erskine and Ollie Bell Finch Reid, met his sudden death as a result of a train accident in the morning hours of Saturday, Nov.6. He was born on Feb.24, 1963, in South Bend, Ind.
Anthony, affectionately known as “Tony,”as a child received his spiritual guidance at the Progressive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev.Henry L.Giden Sr. He was a 1981 graduate of LaSalle High School and enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged in 1983.
In his younger years, Anthony had a passion for dancing and was an impeccable dresser. He never met a stranger, and was always kind to everyone he met. In his last days, Anthony had an increasing desire to recommit his life to Christ. He spoke avidly of the Bible and lead his family to the Neighborhood United Methodist Church.
Anthony is survived by his loving fiancée, Aurelia Fitter; daughter, Janice Angelica Reid;stepsons, Jermale, Terrel and Terrance Phillips; two nieces, Sher Dean and Shawana Dean; and a nephew, Tremaine Howell, all of South Bend;aunts, Charlie C.Coleman, Mary Botts, Willie Mae Love and Gracie Jenkins, Irena M.Reed and Imogene Reid, all of South Bend, and Jimmie Washington of St. Louis, Mo.; an uncle, Joe “Son” Reid of South Bend; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Erskine and Ollie B.Reid; and by a sister, Sherine Reid Tate.
Visitation for Anthony R. Reid will be held from 7 to 8 p.m.on Friday in Alford’s Mortuary, with services immediately following, officiated by Bishop Stephen Reed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford’ s Mortuary
