Jake Anthony Manuszak
April 27, 1986 – Sept. 19, 2006
Jake Anthony Manuszak, 20, of South Bend, Indiana, died Tuesday, September 19, 2006, in Memorial Hospital of South Bend as the result of a traffic accident. Jake was born on April 27, 1986, in Mishawaka, Indiana. Jake gave in death as he gave in life by being an organ donor.
He attended LaSalle High School and graduated from Clay High School in 2004, where he played football, lettering all four years. Jake also was a captain on the football team when Clay High School went downstate and won the 2002 Class 4A Regional. He was offered several college football scholarships. While at LaSalle High School he was a member of the Navy R.O.T.C.
Surviving are his mother, Terese L. (Joseph) Melton of South Bend, Indiana; his father, Michael A. (Sheryl Mong) of Indianapolis, Indiana; a sister, Jocelyn Manuszak of South Bend, Indiana; his maternal grandmother, Shirley Cichonski of South Bend, Indiana; his paternal grandmother, Marilyn Manuszak of Marion, Indiana; a stepbrother, Steven Melton of Mishawaka, Indiana; his half sister, Jennifer Barhydt of South Bend; an aunt, Veronica Niedbalski of South Bend, Indiana; cousins, Vincent (Toni), Benjamin (Carrie) and Jessica Niedbalski; and his maternal step-grandparents, Therese and Jack Melton of South Bend, Indiana. Jake’s maternal grandfather, Ted Cichonski, and his paternal grandfather, Walter Manuszak, preceded him in death.
Visitation for Jake will be held from 2 to 8 PM Sunday, September 24, 2006, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Monday, September 25, 2006, in St. Hedwig Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend, Indiana.
