David L. Kaser
July 28, 1939 - May 12, 2026
David L. Kaser, 86, passed away May 12, 2026, at Aviva Assisted Living in Merrillville, IN. He was born on July 28, 1939, in Hamlet, IN, to the late Harold E. Kaser and Sarah A. (Buell) Kaser.
David graduated from North Liberty High School, North Liberty, IN in 1957 and went on to earn his master’s degree in education at Ball State University. While attending Ball State he wrestled for the Ball State wrestling team. After receiving his degree, he returned to South Bend to pursue his career in education. He worked for the South Bend Community School Corporation for 36 years in many roles from teaching Industrial Arts to a High School Principal. He was also the wrestling coach at Clay High School in 1962. David also served as the President of the Indiana High School Athletic Association in that late 1990’s. He retired at the early age of 59 and enjoyed many years traveling, enjoying time at the family lake house in Minnesota and in Florida.
David married Karen L. Peterson on December 22, 1962, and cherished life with her for almost 60 years before her passing on November 28, 2022. Dave and Karen spent many summers at Star Lake, MN where they enjoyed the lake scenery and being on the Pontoon. David also traveled with Karen throughout the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii and spent the winter months on Anna Maria Island with close friends enjoying life to its fullest.
David is survived by his daughter, Deann Patena of Crown Point, IN, daughter-n-law, Cindy Kaser of Carmel, IN, five grandchildren; Kevin McCammack, Erin McCammack, Megan (Sam) Dorsa, Allison Kaser and Claire Patena, great-grandchildren; Anna Dorsa and David Dorsa. David is also survived by his brother Dan Kaser of North Liberty, IN, Doug (Myra) Kaser of North Liberty, IN and sister Laurie (Greg) Seifer of North Liberty, IN.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Karen L. Kaser, his son David Kaser, son-n-law, Tim Patena, and sister-n-law, Jean Ann Kaser.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 -1:00 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2026, at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN with service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Porter Rea Cemetery, South Bend, IN.
