Mary Jo Augustine (Waggoner) - Class Of 1973 VIEW PROFILE

Mary Jo Augustine (Waggoner)

Mary Waggoner, 68, died November 15th. Mary was born August 4, 1955, in South Bend, Indiana.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Bruce Waggoner; their dear children David Waggoner (Granger, Indiana), Daniel Waggoner (Austin, Texas), and Jane Waggoner (Elmhurst, Illinois); four of her remaining five siblings: Michael Augustine, Timothy Augustine, Catherine Augustine, and Patricia Feightner; Bruce's parents Bernard and Shirley Waggoner; Bruce's siblings: Debra (James, deceased) Kruger and Dawn Waggoner; extended family; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Patrick and Mary Augustine and her twin brother, Vincent Augustine.

Bruce and Mary were married in January 1978, in Groton, Connecticut, near where he was stationed at the New London Submarine Base. After his Navy service, they moved back to South Bend where Bruce began his studies at the University of Notre Dame. After graduation, they moved to St. Louis, Missouri and, except for another career-related move to Charlevoix, Michigan, lived most of their married life in South Bend.

Mary was a graduate of South Bend LaSalle High School and Valparaiso University, and she completed the Paralegal Studies Certificate Program at Indiana University South Bend. She spent her work life primarily at S-O-S of Madison Center and the University of Notre Dame.

Mary was an avid reader who devoured books, poetry, and articles. She loved to sing - she had a beautiful voice, and she shared it with us as a cantor for many years at Saint Joseph and Little Flower Catholic Churches, and in several on-stage productions throughout the years. She loved travelling, especially to Hawaii and Paris, with her husband Bruce. She loved her family with all her heart and soul and was the glue that held us together. She had many close friends that she collected through her years, never letting them forget how much she cared about them.

Mary willed her body to the Indiana University School of Medicine. Per her wishes, there will be no funeral services, but the family will be hosting a private gathering for close family and friends to celebrate her incredible life.
