Melvin E. Johnson

SOUTH BEND - Melvin Earl Johnson, 62, of South Bend, IN, made his transition from earth to glory on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at home with his family by his side.

Melvin was born May 21, 1953, to the union of Freeman and Emma (Borntreger) Johnson.

He was educated in South Bend Community Schools, graduating from South Bend LaSalle High School.

Melvin accepted the Lord in his life as a child and served the Lord with gladness. He was a faithful member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Linda; 2 sons, DaMon and Melvin II, both of South Bend; daughters, Ayana (Alvin) Haynes of Atlanta, GA, Chisa (Torrence) Taylor and Kristen (Arttis) Patterson, all of South Bend; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.

He also leaves 3 brothers, Freeman (Pam), Raymond (Pat) and Kenny (Jamie), all of South Bend, and 1 sister, Tina Herron of Hamden, CT. Melvin is also survived by his mother, Emma Cranford, also of South Bend.

He was preceded in death by his father, Freeman; brothers, Richard and David; and a sister, Sharon McLeod.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at 12 noon, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to service time at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 N. Adams, South Bend, IN.
