South Bend - Edward Harry Steinke, Jr., 68, passed away Monday, November 15, 2021 in Wellbrooke Nursing Facility.

Ed was born December 30, 1952 in South Bend to the late Edward & Clementine (Zapalski) Steinke. He is preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Lois (Kovacsics); sister, Diane Steinke; and nephew, Justin Jachimiak.

Left to cherish the memory of Ed are his children, Gena (Travis) Steinke Kelly, Michael A. Steinke, Heather L. (Neil) Fryman, Stephanie Steinke; grandchildren, Chase & Phoenix Kelly, Mariah Steinke, Adalynn & Lucy Fryman; sister-in-law, Kathleen Jachimiak and great-nephew, Jace Jachimiak.

Ed was a Lasalle graduate who enjoyed playing in a band as well as playing the guitar and harmonica. He was a volunteer firefighter for Portage Township FD for 20+ years and was the Fire Chief for a period of time during those years. In the early 70's he was a member of the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Posse mounted patrol. He worked for Atlas Restaurant Supply for a majority of his working years and eventually retired from there once his wife passed away to take care of Stephanie.

Ed was very much a family man who loved his wife and kids dearly. He would entertain the family with his sock puppets from time to time. He enjoyed cooking on the grill as well as making breakfast for his family every weekend. He would even make designer pancakes upon request of his children as well as pirate eyes. He spent most Sunday's watching Nascar when it was on.

Visitation for Ed will be 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, November 22, 2021 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Funeral Service to begin at 6:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel.
