Goshen - GOSHEN-John R. Carpenter, 71, passed away August 4, 2021 at Goshen Hospital. He was born September 21, 1949 in South Bend to Bernard & Betty (Reed) Carpenter.

On June 9 1972 he married Elizabeth Bumbarger; she survives along with 2 children, Michael Carpenter, Anna Carpenter, 4 grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Jaxson, James Arthur, 2 sisters, Debbie Carpenter and Diane Grounds.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Linda Carpenter and 1 brother, Arthur Carpenter.

John graduated from LaSalle High School in 1969 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he served for 20 years. He retired from AutoZone after 15 years and he and his wife owned Remember When... antique store in Arizona until 2014. John enjoyed bowling at many leagues including Beacon Bowl and Chippawa. He was very involved in many things throughout his life including National Bicycle Association Stockcar Racing, NASCAR and being a youth bowling coach. He will be remembered as being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
