Leon Vance Jr. Davis

Leon Vance Davis, Jr.

October 3, 1950 ~ January 26, 2025        74 Years Old

Leon V. Davis Jr., a beacon of unwavering light and love, passed away on January 26, 2025, in Niles, MI, leaving behind a legacy of joy, craftsmanship, and an unbreakable bond with his family. Born on October 3, 1950, in South Bend, IN, to Lois A. (Owens) Davis and Leon V. Davis Sr., Leon's journey was one marked by dedication, warmth, and an infectious zest for life that touched everyone he met.

Leon's life was a testament to the power of hard work and commitment. A proud graduate of LaSalle High School, he dedicated 35 years of service as a custodian for the South Bend Community School Corporation. His work ethic was not just a means to an end but a reflection of his belief in the importance of contributing to the community and creating a nurturing environment for future generations.

Leon's true masterpiece was his family, a vibrant tapestry woven with love and laughter. He is survived by his father, Leon V. Davis Sr., his devoted children, Timothy, Jennifer, and Melissa Davis, and his cherished bonus children, Kendra (Jonathon) Aikens. His legacy continues to shine through his grandchildren, Jalen, Treyvon, Lauren, Timothy, Tommie, Zachary, Lucus, Ava, and Emma, as well as his great-grandchildren, Tru and Ja'cere. Leon's sisters, Marilyn Brown, Felicia (Greg) Hill, and Paulette (Butch) Kelley, carry with them the spark of his spirit. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and cousins to cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Lois Davis, his brother, Rev. Bernard Davis, his grandchildren, Trevor & Troy Davis and the mother of his children, Suzy Davis.

Leon's craftsmanship was legendary; he was an artist whose medium was anything he could shape with his hands. His creations were not just objects but stories of patience, attention to detail, and the joy of making something from nothing. He never met a stranger, for in each new face, he saw a friend just waiting to be made. His open heart and generous spirit made him a cherished figure in his community and beyond.

His family was his everything. The love he had for his children was mirrored in the adoration he held for his grandchildren. He was their biggest fan, a constant presence at their activities, cheering them on, celebrating their victories, and offering comfort in times of need. His presence was a source of stability and   joy, and his absence will be felt deeply by all who were lucky enough to be part of his world.

Leon had a song in his heart, "Walk around Heaven," that he sang not just for himself but for everyone. When he was down, he would sing it until happiness returned, and in doing so, he taught those around him a profound lesson: joy is something we create, not something we wait for. His voice, a soothing balm to the soul, will echo in the hearts of his loved ones forever.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Brendan Durr and his nurse, Susan for their exceptional care of Leon.

Funeral services for Leon will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2025 at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 1620 S St Joseph St, South Bend, IN 46613. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the start of services.
