SOUTH BEND - Kathy Kalka, 59, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014, in her home. Kathy was born March 9, 1955, in South Bend, to the late Victor and Henrietta (Kruk) Drabecki. Kathy was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Drabecki. On October 19, 1985, Kathy married Leon Kalka, who survives along with their children, Anthony, Mark and Thomas Kalka, all of South Bend; sister, Vickie (Allen) Rosker of Lemon Grove, CA; brothers, Mark Drabecki of Washington, DC, and David (Sue Ann) Drabecki of South Bend.
Kathy was employed with the South Bend Community School Corporation as a teacher's aide. She retired from Honeywell in 2007. Kathy was a parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a member of the AM Vets. She was an avid fan of Notre Dame women's basketball, enjoyed cooking, trying new recipes, and playing poker. Kathy had a big heart; she never forgot birthdays and anniversaries. She cared deeply for her immediate and extended family. Kathy rescued three dogs that are still the family pets. Most of all, Kathy loved her family.
Visitation for Kathy will be 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, March 27, 2014, with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 pm in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, March 28, 2014, in St. Patrick Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Pet Refuge, 2300 W. 6th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544; and to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 309 S. Taylor St., South Bend, Indiana 46601.
