Michael Jeffery Ford Sr.
July 15, 1955 ~ October 22, 2024 (age 69)
Michael Jeffery Ford, 69 of South Bend, IN was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 21, 2024. He was born July 15, 1955 to the union of Robert Leon “Bobbie” Ford and Wilma Jean Evans Ford in South Bend. Michael retired from Real Services after working for eighteen years. He also worked as a security guard for several years while working for Real Services until his health began to decline. Michael served in the Army for four years, followed by several years in the Army Reserve.
Michael loved to grill ribs and chicken while telling jokes and making everyone laugh. He also enjoyed dancing, bowling, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. His favorite football team was the Indianapolis Colts. Michael had a vast collection of Colts memorabilia from house slippers, ties, blankets to jerseys and a Colts flag. He was a die-hard Colts fan, win or lose. Besides the Colts, Michael loved listening to gospel music and the “Blues”. He was a very devoted, loving husband. His family was very important to him and he made sure that he had plenty of time for cookouts and family birthdays together.
Michael was preceded in death by his loving parents, Robert Leon “Bobbie” Ford and Wilma Ford and his maternal grandmother, Jessie Kindred, his favorite aunt, Ola Williams and his aunt Katherine Peterson. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Bonnie Johnson Ford, his daughters Alexandria Ford, Andria Ford, of South Bend, IN, Melinda Scott of Phoenix, AZ, Y’tonda Johnson, and Delana Johnson of South Bend. He also leaves to cherish his memories, Lauren Ellis, of South Bend who was like a daughter to him, along with two sons, Michael Ford, JR and Chaz Howell of South Bend. Michael is survived by his brothers Terry Leon (Evette) Ford and Tony Ford of South Bend, Kerry Leroy Ford of Mesa, AZ and one sister, Tammy Ford Allen of Milwaukee, WI. Michael is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren of South Bend and two grandchildren in Phoenix, AZ, Alexandria Zan Ford, mother of the Ford/Ellis children, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a maternal aunt. Michael had a host of loving family and friends who enjoyed his sense of humor, his great barbecue cookouts and his fish cookouts. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and his many cousins.
