Gregory A. Scott

April 22, 1956 ~ October 29, 2024 (age 68)

The world lost a remarkable soul when Gregory Allen Scott, also fondly known as Greg, passed away on October 29, 2024. Born in South Bend, Indiana, on April 22, 1956, Gregory's wit, intelligence, humor, and loyalty touched the lives of all who knew him.

He was an extraordinary man, who navigated through life with warmth and an infectious smile. His love for family, cooking, and football were the pillars of his existence, and his zest for life was truly inspiring. Gregory was a man of many talents, but his passion for culinary arts was unparalleled. He was a highly respected Sous Chef at the University of Notre Dame for over 30 years, where he showcased his culinary genius. His smart and innovative recipes were a testament to his creativity, and his funny anecdotes about life in the kitchen were always the life of any gathering. However, it was his loyalty – to his craft, his colleagues, and his loved ones – that truly set him apart.

His dedication to his family was profound, and he was a source of constant support and encouragement. Gregory is survived by his daughter, Lakisha (James) Covington; his wife, Anita Scott; son-in-law, James Covington; sisters, Carol Hall (Winston), Shirl Winston, Shelia Winston, Linda Winston, Tina (Robinson) Bynum; brother, Derry Winston; son, Andre Bonds; and grandchildren, Taylor Covington, Isaiah Mickens, Braxton Bonds, Jeremiah R.-Scott, and Hezekiah Covington. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and he leaves behind a rich tapestry of beautiful memories.

He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Winston; mother, Shirley Scott Winston; and brothers, Jeffery and Roy Winston.

A Celebration of Life for Gregory Scott will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 11:00 am EST, at Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana, 46601. We invite all those who were touched by Gregory's life to honor his memory by sharing your stories, anecdotes, and photos on his memorial page. His legacy of love and laughter will forever be etched in our hearts.
