Raymond Charles Works

Ray Works, 48, dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, of Granger, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 5, in Independence, Ohio.

Ray was born Dec. 29, 1954, in South Bend, Ind., to the union of Gillom Works and Allen Marie Newman Works Pawlicki.

He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1974. He excelled in music as an accomplished saxophonist. He attended the Indiana University at South Bend campus. Ray also served in the United States Marine Corps with the military police, and received an honorable discharge in 1976.

Ray was baptized into the Baptist Church at an early age. He was active in his personal ministry, president, board member of the Urban League, South Bend Par Putters, Gus Macker Basketball, Business Network International and the South Bend Rotary Club.

He literally lived Galatians 6:2: "Bear ye one another's burden..." When advising or counseling others, Ray was always genuinely sincere, concerned, honest and forthright with those who sought his input in resolving personal and life experiences.

Ray is survived by his wife, Elsa S. Works of Granger; a son, Shawn D. Works; three daughters, Carmen D. Works, Rhonda K. (Scot) Stopczynski and Jaimee S. Works, all of South Bend; three grandchildren, Tevin J. Alexander, Prince D. Works and Tysan E. Stopczynski; his parents, Gillom "Pinkie" F. Works and Allen Marie Pawlicki. He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy M. Neal of South Bend and Bonnie (William) Campbell of Colorado; two brothers, Jerry M. (Gina) Works of Michigan and Carl L. Works of Florida; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Ross of South Bend, Rosetta Brown of Pennsylvania and Lynda Savanick of Maryland; two brothers-in-law, Reuben (Marty) Savanick and Larry Brown of Pennsylvania; mother-in-law, Ferne E. Savanick of Goshen, Ind.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services for Mr. C. Works will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in the Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 N. Adams, South Bend, where visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend. Burial will follow funeral services at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.

The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
