Gavin Lamar Jones Sr

SOUTH BEND — Mr.Gavin Lamar Jones Sr., 37, beloved father, son and brother, who formerly resided in South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, Jan.9, 2007, at 6 a.m.in Kent, Washington.

Gavin was born to the union of Darlies and Karen L. (Howell) Jones Sr.on November 18, 1969, in South Bend, Indiana. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1988, where he played on the varsity basketball team. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1991 after serving his country for two years. While on duty in the Navy he served on a tender, repairing vessels for Navy ships. He also played for the Navy basketball team, wining a championship. Gavin was a resident in Seattle, Washington, for six years and worked for United Parcel Service.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Candace Jones and an uncle, Gerald Jones.

Survivors left to cherish his memory include his parents, Darlies and Karen L.Jones Sr.of Summerfield, Florida; one son, Gavin Jones Jr.; one sister, Tracie Jones;and one brother, Darlies (Shannon) Jones Jr., all of Indianapolis, Indiana; his paternal grandmother, Luberta Jones of South Bend; his maternal grandmother, Doris Howell of Ocala, Florida; and an uncle, Percy Jones of South Bend; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Gavin Lamar Jones Sr.will be held at 1 p.m.on Monday, January 15, 2007, in Olivet AME Church, with burial following at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.on Monday, January 15, 2007, in the church.
