In Memory

Jean Merrill - Class Of 1970

Jean Merrill

Jean “Jeanie” Merrill

Jean “Jeanie” Merrill, 69, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her loving daughter, Lindsey, on August 5, 2021, after a battle with cancer.

Jeanie was born on April 29, 1952, in South Bend Indiana.  She is survived by her daughter, Lindsey Pritchard, and her husband, Kevin Pritchard, their daughters, Karlee and Korie, her brothers, Gary “Gerald” Merrill and Paul Merrill.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Carmelita Merrill.

Jeanie enjoyed reading, sewing, kayaking, and long walks on the beach.  She liked to try new recipes and make cookies with her granddaughters.  Jeanie enjoyed traveling to new places.  She loved her dog, Quinn.  Her favorite memories came from sitting around and talking to her loved ones.

She graduated from LaSalle High School in South Bend, Indiana.  She received a Bachelor Degree in Accounting from Saginaw Valley State University.  She was a Certified Public Accountant.  She worked as an accountant for several companies.  Her passion though was caring for others.  She later received a Master Degree in Education and Counseling from Indiana University.   She ended her career as a grade school counselor.

Jeanie always put others before her. She was kind, loving, resilient, comforting, educated, and always there for her family. She was a tremendous grandmother. She was a good friend to those who knew her.  She fought her painful cancer courageously. She was selfless in her final days, placing her family before her.  She left Lindsey a quote, “God gave us memories so there will always be roses in December.”  She will be forever missed.

A private celebration of Jeanie’s life will be held by immediate family members and closest friends. Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
