Michael Patrick “Irish Mike" Meehan

SOUTH BEND — Michael Patrick Meehan, “Irish Mike”, 54, of South Bend, went to sleep in the arms of Jesus on Friday, January 11, 2013. Mike was born on April 15, 1958, in South Bend, Indiana, to James Michael Meehan and Ila (Martin) Davis.

Mike is survived by his mother, Ila Davis;daughter, Sabrina (James) Dini of Osceola, and his son, Mike (Danielle) Meehan of Mishawaka;and stepchildren;Samantha Walker and Jason Brogdon. Mike was a grandfather to 4 grandchildren, Riley and Chloe Graham, Lane Dini, Christian Meehan;and 10 step-grandchildren, Zach, Alyssia, Cody, Thomas Dini, Michael Whitmer, DeShawn, Christian and Justice Walker, Joshua and Damien Brogdon. Three sisters, Peggy (Randy) Lipps of Bristol, Indiana, Mary (Jeff) Lacy of Granger, Anne (Thomas) Ginter, and brother, Daniel (Patricia) Meehan, both of South Bend. Mike was previously married to Melody Serge and through this union his children were born. Mike was an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

His career as a tool design engineer encompassed thirty-four years at Huckins Tool & Die, Capitol Technologies/Hess Engineering and currently at Holbert Engineering. Mike was innovative and precise in his designing skills. Mike was also known to his many friends as “ Irish Mike.”He loved the University of Notre Dame, the Cubbies, the Bears, and St.Patrick’s Day. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, playing golf, euchre, gambling, and going to his favorite watering holes, City Limits, Bob’s 19th Hole.Mike was a gentle giant, always ready to party, enjoyed a good joke, and had a hearty laugh.

He was preceded in death by his father, paternal grandparents, maternal grandparents and, most recently, his beloved stepfather, Edgar Davis.

The family will receive friends today, January 15th, from 4-8 pm at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N.Main St., Mishawaka.The funeral service will be held at 11:00am, with one hour visitation prior on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at the funeral home.The family is honoring Michael’s wishes to be cremated.In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made in memory of Michael Meehan for his grandchildren’s college education trust fund at any TCU branch
