Mr. Gregory Lon Collins, 65, of South Bend, Indiana, departed this life on Friday March 28, 2025 in St. Joseph Health System of Mishawaka, Indiana. Gregory was born on March 2,1960 in South Bend, Indiana to the union of Johnny Sr. and Geraldine Collins. Greg graduated from LaSalle High School In 1978 and went on to attend Wilberforce University.
His family always knew that God, family, and community were Greg’s top priorities. Greg gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized and became a member of Grace A.M.E. Zion Church. He was a founding member of Compassion Heart Ministries.
After college Greg worked many jobs in South Bend, Indiana some of them were Notre Dame in the South dining Hall, SBCSC, Family & Children Center, and JJC, he loved working with students and young adults.
After years of service with other companies he was always looking to start his own business, which he did; the first being "The Greg Collins Youth Center" (South Michigan St. South Bend), Collins Dust Bust Cleaning Service (with he employed many family and friends), and then the business that he was most proud of; "My Pleasure Corporate Shuttle Service!" (Clean and reliable transportation with a personal touch!)
On May 13th, 1983 Greg married the love of his life Toye Vinson. It was apparent to everyone that their marriage had a strong Bond that could not be broken. Greg leaves to cherish his many memories, His wife: Toye Collins, Children: Carlton Collins & ToisJones, Grandchildren: Toriyona (Charles) Jordan, Christopher Deynes-Collins, Aubriana (Andy) Collins, Ariel Collins, Gabriella Collins, Trey Collins, Bralen Jones, Alayna Jones, Adriana Jones, and Jazlynn Collins. Great Grandchildren: Alec Valenzuela, Adrian Valenzuela, Sweet Pea Valenzuela. One Brother (John Jr. (Denise) Collins, One sister Lillian Collins-Bracey, A sister-in-law Beverly Winston and Brother-in-law Scott Vinson. A host of niece’s and nephew’s Along with 2 very Special cousin’s: Mr. Kyle R. Bowerman and Mr. Quince Luten and many, many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
Gregory was preceded in death by his Father, John Collins Sr.; Mother Geraldine Collins; Two Sister’s Bobbie Jean Collins and Ollie Rochelle Collins (Perkins); One Brother Col. George Ralph Collins, Brother-in-law David Charles Vinson; Maternal grandparents Lonnie and Lillian Luten; Paternal grandparents, Alex and Ollie Collins; Uncles, Willie Collins, George Collins, Edward Collins, Walter Collins, Ladell Collins, Alexander Luten and Joseph B. Luten; Aunts, Velma Collins, Lizzie Mae Baldwin, Eula Rowland, Mary Louise Stevens, Della Luten, And Annell Waters and One grand child Leigha Jo Ann Jones. As we celebrate Greg’s life, we will remember a man of strong faith and love for his family, friends, and community.
