Mark Francis Bland
Nov. 25, 1953 – Aug. 9, 1985
Mark F. Bland, 17, 813 N. Huey St., a junior at LaSalle High School, died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph’s Hospital coronary care unit where he had been admitted Monday.
Bland had been suffering from an upper respiratory condition for several days. The youth’s doctor said that death was due to acute heart muscle inflammation caused by the virus which caused heart failure.
Born Nov. 25, 1953 in West Palm Beach, Fla., he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack P. Bland. Surviving besides his parents are three brothers, Kevin J., Thomas P. and Terrence J., all at home.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Kaniewski and Sons Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Rev. William J. Neidhart, C.S.C. pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
A resident of South Bend for 16 years, Bland was active in Scouting for 10 of
these years, and was president of Explorers 413, Holy Cross Church, and a member of the Order of Arrow. He was also a member of the LaSalle Science Club.
Members at Post 437 will be honorary pallbearers.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Expansion Fund.
